Serbia's capital changed hands dozens of times in the past few centuries: Ottoman/Austrian rule 16th–19th centuries Ottoman/Serbian rule 1804–1878 Serbian rule 1878–1914 Austro-Hungarian/Serbian rule 1914–18 Kingdom of Serbia 1918 Yugoslav Kingdom 1918–1941 Nazi/Croatian rule 1941–1944 Yugoslav Republic 1944–1991 I found some relics from Austrian rule, namely antique roller shutters made in Vienna: One made by Julius Rosenthal (I've come across shutters made by ES. Rosenthal in Vienna and Lviv - possibly same family) and another made by Joh. Anderle, examples of which can still be found in Vienna and Lviv . I wasn't able to find any information about the manhole covers, but judging by the wear and tear and fonts, I believe that many of these may date to before date to before WWII. And here's a really slick boot scraper!

Most of the antique roller shutters that I found were made by the company DUKO, which also made shutters for Mukachevo , thus they likely date from the interwar period. Antique shutters made by other companies. I've seen the same lion symbol on shutters in  Vienna , Berehovo , and Lviv.

A new burger joint opened up in an Austrian-era building near Lviv's Rynok Square. It was built as a revenue house by Ukrainian sculptor and architect Mykhailo Makovych in 1912. The following year it also housed a small traders association. Fortunately, when the owners of the new establishment renovated the space, they preserved the 100-year-old Vienna-made metal roller shutters. They also kept and renovated the locksmith's manufacturer's mark on the front door. Before and After Roller shutters made by E.S. Rosenthal can still be found in Vienna, as seen here . A third update on the Hungarian-made roller shutters on Kopernyka Street. After many years or even decades, this old pharmacy has reopened - but rather than selling medication, now it's a store that sells fancy soaps. A lot of the old wooden furniture is still in place, as well as an old mural on the ceiling. And fortunately, the original shutter is also in place - freshly painted over (though already graffitied) and now in use once again. The building was built in 1892, and the shutter could date from that time too, making it well over 100 years old. I first posted pictures of these shutters a few years ago, found here ,  and up update after it had been graffitied . Last time I was in Mukachevo, I found a shutter made by the same Hungarian company, as seen  here .

Traces of the past in Klosterneuburg, an ancient town right outside of Vienna. If so, super old!

Vienna is chock-full of old (late 19th and early 20th century) metal roller shutters. The most interesting to find were the shutters made by manufacturers who also made shutters for others cities in the Austrian Empire, in particular for  Lviv  and Rzeszow , which can be seen in my posts about metal shutters in those two cities. In Mukachevo there are old wooden shutters made by  Woltär  and Molnar, Wien.
